Introduction
Tapping / EFT is an innovative form of therapy that fuses the ancient Chinese knowledge of energy and median pathways with Western psychological understanding of trauma and conversation. It can be considered a form of "acupuncture without needles", where the focus is on releasing trauma through gentle touch on specific points on the body, known as median points.
This method recognizes that trauma and negative emotions can block our energy pathways, resulting in both mental and physical problems. By using EFT, one can release these blockages and restore a healthier energy flow.
Practical Session
A typical Tapping session looks like this:
Discussion of the Challenge : The session begins with a conversation where you describe the challenge you want to work on. This could be anxiety, phobias, trauma or other emotional blockages.
Identifying Trauma : Together we will pinpoint the specific trauma that is underlying the challenge you are experiencing. This involves identifying the moment when the trauma was first experienced, which can be an important part of the process.
Tapping on the Median Points : Once the moment of trauma is identified, we begin tapping on the relevant median points. These points are similar to those used in acupuncture and are connected to the body's energy system.
Discomfort Monitoring : During the process, we monitor how much discomfort remains. The goal is to reduce the discomfort until you feel lighter and more relieved inside.
Follow-up : Once all discomfort has been resolved, we review the original challenge to ensure it has been addressed effectively.
How Does It Feel?
It is normal to feel discomfort when working with EFT. This discomfort is an indication that the trauma has been activated and that the release process is underway. At first, confronting an uncomfortable situation may feel intense, but the pressure will gradually ease as the trauma is released.
If it gets too much, you can always choose to "tap out" of memory and take it in small chunks. This flexibility allows you to work at your own pace and create security in the process.
Why Does It Work?
The effectiveness of EFT can be difficult to explain from a Western understanding of the human condition, but the basic theory is that trauma can be seen as "frozen moments" in time that we have not been able to process. These moments can block the energy pathways in the body, which can result in both physical and psychological disruptions.
By tapping on the median points while activating the trauma in our thoughts, impulses are sent into the frozen moment, which can release emotional blockages and restore energy flow. This can have a positive impact on both our physical and mental well-being.
What Does It Help With?
Tapping is effective in addressing a wide range of challenges and disorders, including:
Trauma : Processing experiences that have left emotional wounds.
Anxiety
Stress
Phobias : Reduction or elimination of irrational fears.
Poor Self-Esteem : Improving self-image and self-confidence.
Dyslexia : Support to address difficulties with reading and writing.
General Discomfort : Treatment of stress, anxiety and depression.
Many have experienced improvements in physical problems after releasing trauma, as the energy flow in the body is closely connected to our physical condition.
