Tapping / Thought Field Therapy

If you feel stressed, anxious or close to breaking down, tapping can help create calm in the body here and now.

What is Tapping / EFT?

Tapping, also known as EFT/TFT, is a method that can effectively reduce stress, anxiety, and emotional discomfort. The method combines elements of talk therapy and exposure with gentle tapping on selected acupressure points on the body.

Tapping was developed in the United States and is based on both Western psychology and knowledge from Eastern body-based traditions. The method works with the connection between thoughts, emotions, the body, and the nervous system.

How Does EFT Work?

When we have been exposed to stressful experiences or trauma, these can settle in the body as persistent restlessness, anxiety, self-criticism, or negative expectations. It is not the memory itself that creates the problem, but the physical and emotional reaction that is triggered again and again.

By combining focus on what feels difficult with tapping on the body, calming signals are sent to the nervous system. This can reduce the intensity of the emotion and create more calm and clarity. Many people experience that the discomfort eases relatively quickly, and that their relationship to past experiences shifts — without losing the memory of them.

Tapping and the Nervous System

Tapping works both psychologically and physically. The method can help regulate the body’s stress response (fight, flight, or freeze) and support the nervous system in settling. At the same time, tapping can be used to work with new, more supportive thoughts and beliefs.

We now know that the body and nervous system are shaped by our experiences — especially early in life. Old patterns can therefore be activated in present-day situations and lead to stress, anxiety, or unhelpful reactions. Tapping can help loosen these patterns in a gentle and compassionate way.

What Can Tapping Help With?

I use Tapping to support people with:

  • stress and burnout

  • anxiety and inner restlessness

  • self-criticism and low self-esteem

  • emotional reactions to past experiences (trauma)

  • chronic tension or pain

  • school-related challenges (school refusal, dyslexia, exam anxiety)

  • grief

The method has no known side effects and is experienced by many as both calming and strengthening — mentally as well as physically.
